The question on everyone's mind is whether it's going to be a Bard's Tale or Baldur's Gate video game

Not content with delivering just two great old-school RPGs, inXile Entertainment is apparently looking to bring back yet another role-playing game franchise from the days of yore.

The information comes from a backer note issued by Torment: Tides of Numenera Project Lead Chris Keenan, stating that he's turning his attention toward another, yet undisclosed game project.

Although he kept things shrouded in an aura of mystery, he did reveal that it was "another RPG that has been passionately demanded of us for a while now." He mentioned that work on the project was still in the very early stages, and that there would most likely be more information come New Year's time.

The big question here is whether this means a new The Bard's Tale game or a new Baldur's Gate one. Black Isle and Interplay's back catalog also includes Planescape and Fallout, but since one of them is already underway and the other is in someone else's hands, it's down to those two series.

Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 were developed by Bioware, and now they're in the care of co-founder Trent Oster's Beamdog. The company is supposedly already working on an official Baldur's Gate III, but it's been a while since anything was heard from them.

Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity is sort of covering that area, being a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and the old-school computer role-playing game genre, but there's enough Steam in those sails to last another couple of Baldur's Gate spin-offs, given the widespread love for the franchise.

Other notable mentions would be Icewind Dale or even Arcanum: Of Magick and Steamworks Obscura, an interesting title that didn't get as much attention as the other series but had its strong following nonetheless.

The highest probability lies with Bard's Tale, but we're bound to know for sure pretty soon.

Not ignoring Wasteland and Tides of Numenera

inXile Entertainment's two previously successful Kickstarter projects haven't been forgotten, as the company also intends to do more tinkering with Wasteland 2, iron out some kinks and stuff like that, primarily work meant to stomp bugs and several balance changes to "tighten up some of the loose ends."

The post-apocalyptic RPG turned out to be pretty good, as you can see from our Wasteland 2 review, and a lot of people are looking forward to the upcoming successor to Torment, and with high hopes at that.

The majority of the team has switched over to Torment: Tides of Numenera, working full time to get the classic role-playing game rolling.

The last time the developer talked about prospective launch dates, late 2015 was mentioned as a release window for the title.
