Comparisons with Fallout fail to see the core of the experience

RAGE is certainly something different for the developers at id Software, the first original intellectual property that they have created in some time, and one leading member of the team working on it has said that more than a dozen of books and movies served as inspiration.

Speaking to Gamespot, Matt Hopper, who is the design director working on RAGE at id Software, has stated, “We watch the same movies, play the same games, and read the same books. We sat down on a table and discussed about nothing but ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if we did this?’ and if we like it, we put it in the world. We’ve been tethered with the Doom and Quake world, so it’s fresh to start anew with the Rage universe.”

He added, “We get the Borderlands and Fallout parallels a lot, but when you sit down with the game for an amount of time, there’s a lot more fidelity in there. Visually, people want to make a comparison because they haven’t got their hands on it.”

The executive believes that RAGE is different from other titles that use the post-apocalypse theme because it is not focused on just one element of the world and tries to create an experience which mixes world exploration with gun play and vehicle use.

RAGE will allow players to use a variety of weapons and gadgets to approach a number of combat scenarios and the demos shown at E3 and Gamescom have shown a smart shooter where the player needs to be careful about all his moves when facing off a number of pretty intelligent enemies.

RAGE is set to be launched, after a number of delays, in early October and gamers will be able to pick it up on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC.
