The company might hire some of the team

id Software, the prestigious developer that is responsible for cult titles such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, or Quake, has recently shared its thoughts about the dismantling of the team from 3D Realms, which was working on the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever video game.

The company has said, through the voice of its Director of Business development, Steve Nix, that it initially though that it was a joke, and that 3D Realms has played a big part in the creation of the studio as it is today, by publishing some of its initial titles.

“For me it was personally sad. I know a lot of people at the studio (id) were really surprised and saddened for sure. We had originally moved to Dallas because Apogee, who morphed into 3D Realms, was our original publisher. So id might not even be in Dallas and a lot of us wouldn’t even be working in the games industry if it wasn’t for Apogee and 3D Realms. So I know for me personally I thought it was a joke when I heard the other day. So definitely, extremely saddened and surprising that those guys aren’t there and we may never see the game we were all looking forward to.”

When Nix was asked if some of the developers from the old Duke Nukem Forever team, which was laid off when the project was suspended due to “lack of funds,” would find a job at id, he said that there might be some openings for them. “Well, there are some pretty talented people over there, we’re still hiring so, we’ll see,” he added. “There are some really talented guys in there so it very well could happen that some of them end up at id.”

The current situation at 3D Realms isn't the best, as the company is threatened with a lawsuit from Take Two, which claims that it invested 12 million dollars in the development of Duke Nukem Forever, and seeks to see its money back. 3D Realms denied that such an investment was made, but the judges will decide that in the end.
