The developers working on the first-person shooter RAGE at id Software have announced that they are ready to begin working on downloadable content for the title, but that they are also busy putting the finishing touches on the experience.

The game will be launched on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on October 4 in the United States and three days later on European markets.

The id Software team is said to be making sure that the shape of the game is the best it can be on launch and that it is also ready to tackle any bus that players find via quick patches, which will be offered via the Steamworks service on the PC.

Speaking to Rock, Paper, Shotgun Tim Willits, who is the creative director working on RAGE at id Software, has said, “The programmers are all very, very, very busy, but the level designers and the artists are starting to work on some DLC. But we want to hold off a bit and find out what people like, because you shouldn’t just assume people like then find they want something else. So we wanna find out what they actually like for the DLC.”

He also offers some thought on the importance of launching additional content for a game after the release date, saying, “When people buy the game, they spend a lot of money on it. To them it’s an investment. If they feel like the company that made it doesn’t want to invest in it, then they don’t want to invest in it. That’s why I think DLC’s important.”

Willits says that all developers need to make sure that they offer support for their games so that gamers feel that they get a solid return on their investment.

RAGE is the first new intellectual property that id Software has created since Doom and Quake.
