iToner, a very useful application for Mac users owning an iPhone, has reached version 1.0.8. The app helps users transfer MP3 or AAC audio files to their iPhones, with simple drag-and-drop functionality.

Transferring ringtones from a Mac (under 10.4.10 or later) to an iPhone is now possible thanks to this Mac application from Ambrosia Software, which supports AIF, AAC, MP3, and WAV files. Users can set any song as a ringtone for no additional charge. Starting with version 1.0.6 (updated to work under iPhone software 1.1.3), iToner includes three different languages - German, French, and Italian. The latest versions fixed a number of bugs and added intelligent audio processing.

iToner 1.0.7 added support for iPhone OS version 1.1.4 and fixed iTunes compatibility. iToner no longer prevents iTunes from removing iTMS ringtones, while Ambrosia also fixed a crash occurring when syncing with iPod touch from iTunes. According to the developers, the latest version of the software (v. 1.0.8) includes fixes for iTunes 7.7 and iPhone OS 2.0 compatibility, and adds Japanese localization.

The application enables you to quickly transfer custom ringtones on your iPhone - without modifying, hacking or having to reset your iPhone. You simply drag and drop your MP3 or AAC audio files on iToner's window, click the Sync button, and you're done. Ringtones will continue to work with future iPhone OS versions too, so updating the application will leave the ringtones on your iPhone intact.

Most iPhone owners must know that the device also allows them to assign different ringtones for different contacts. With iToner, you can personalize this feature even more, adding a different ringtone for the folks who are in constant contact with you. So, next time the iPhone rings in your pocket, you'll know it's mom calling up on you to remind you to pick up some milk on your way home.

iToner 1.08 is available as a free download HERE for registered users. A new license costs $15 to buy. iToner is a Universal Binary.
