Although iRex doesn't have Sony's or Bookeen's commercial muscles when it comes to selling cool e-Readers, it manages to launch a nice e-Book device that promises to compete with the big fish on the market.

Therefore, the company recently launched the second edition of the successful iLiad, which is not only a brand new device, but also a cool upgrade of a successful item. What is the device? According to the company's site, iLiad is a device that allows its users to read and write as you do on the regular type of paper, just about anywhere you may go. So, yes, it is more than just an electronic reading device.

Therefore, the recent consisted in giving the device a brand new battery, rated to run up to 15 hours of functioning with its Wi-fi switched on for downloading favorite books. And, this means an increase of 20% in the battery life, since the previous version of the iLiad.

Just about anything you can print on the PC can be easily transferred and read from the item. The memory capacity can be easily and quickly increased by inserting a Compact Flash or a MMC card in the built-in slot, just as you would do with any digital device.

As for the design, this was also significantly improved, so that now it features a smaller hub for the user to sync the iLiad through the fast USB 2.0, or by simply connecting the device to the network, via a Ethernet jack. According to iRex, the manufacturers made the device more ergonomic and surefooted when being placed on flat surfaces.

Regarding the software they used, it was also upgraded to include some of the company's latest version of interface, adding more precision when editing types of PDF documents. It also features the ability to deal with HTML, some of the protected Mobipocket books, as well as raw text.

All in all, if you're somehow interested in purchasing this nice e-book reader, you should know iRex is planning to sell the second edition for a price tag around 700 bucks a pop, starting....TODAY!
