According to the makers of Yahoo! Messenger for iOS, the application can now be used “to make video calls and stream live video one-to-one.” The feature was previously exclusive to iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 users running iOS 4.1. It is now available for iPod touch 4th generation users as well, with the same iOS requirement.

In addition to enabling video calling on iPod touch 4th generation units, Yahoo! Messenger 2.0.1 also brings bug fixes, as a bonus.

Yahoo! doesn’t mention what bugs it has ironed out, but we can be sure of a great experience, given that the app wasn’t too buggy in the first place.

Softpedia recently reported that version 2.0 of the application brought video calling support for iOS device owners looking to video chat with their desktop buddies.

The new 2.0-specific additions are still listed as new over at the app’s iTunes App Store, as follows:

• NEW - Video calls: Use Yahoo! Messenger to make video calls and stream live video one-to-one • NEW - Voice calls: Make free voice calls to your Yahoo! Messenger friends • NEW - Low cost voice calls: Talk to your friends on their landline or mobile phone, and make low cost international calls with Yahoo! Voice Phone Out account. • NEW - Multitasking: Work with other iPhone apps while Yahoo! Messenger runs in the background

Some key features of the Yahoo! Messenger app are exclusively available to iPhone and iPod touch users. Those are:

• Video calling: For the optimal experience, an iPod touch (4th generation) or iPhone 3GS/4, iOS 4.1 & WiFi is recommended • Voice calls to land line or mobile phone: Must be a Yahoo! Voice Phone Out subscriber in these select markets: US, France, Germany, Spain and Singapore • Multitasking: Available on iPod touch (4th generation), iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1
