Apple announced that it is teaming up with airlines like Air France, Continental, Delta, Emirates, KLM and United so that iPod owners will be able to enjoy the first seamless integration between iPods and in-flight entertainment systems.

These airlines will begin offering passengers that have iPods seat connections for their gadgets, connections that will power and charge iPods during flights. Also, a passenger that has an iPod with him will have the possibility to view the video content of their iPods on the seat back displays, AppleInsider reports.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing, stated that there is no better traveling companion than an iPod, and now travelers can power their iPods during flight and even watch their iPod movies and TV shows on their seat back displays. We're excited to work with Air France, Continental, Delta, Emirates, KLM and United to offer iPod users an even better in-flight experience.

Apple said that it is working with Panasonic Avionics Corporation to convince more leading airlines to integrate such facilities for the iPod and until then, the present ones that adopted this idea will introduce these in-flight facilities in the beginning of mid 2007.

AppleInsider writes: "In a press release, the Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple said its iPod ecosystem continues to flourish with more than 3,000 accessories made specifically for the players, ranging from fashionable cases to speaker systems. In addition, more than 70 percent of 2007-model US automobiles currently offer iPod connectivity.

Thus far, Apple has sold nearly 70 million iPods, making it the world's most popular digital music and portable video player. Similarly, the iTunes Store is the number one online music store with over 1.5 billion songs purchased and downloaded worldwide."

Special accessories dedicated to Apple's products and flights already exist on the market. MagSafe Airline Power Adapter is one of them and plugs into an airline seat power port, allowing its MacBook or MacBook Pro notebooks to maintain power for the full duration of a flight. The MagSafe Airline Power Adapter is priced at $59 and Apple began selling it in October.
