The iPhone has been hacked again

In the race of unlocking the iPhone and making it work outside the AT&T network, a user has reported one incredible news. It looks like he has managed to make his iPhone almost fully work with a Vodafone SIM card instead of the old AT&T one.

A large number of hackers have made great efforts for making the iPhone work with a SIM card from any carrier. Having AT&T as a service provider for Apple's phone has been a considerable drawback for many people. Before the release of the handset, many people expressed their desire to buy the iPhone only if coming from a service provider other than AT&T.

A UK report says that a user has bought an iPhone with an AT&T prepaid SIM card. He then used the recently developed iASign hack in order to make the phone start with its basic use. The man then changed the AT&T SIM card into an O2 XDA phone and had Vodafone add it to his current contract. Afterwards, he put the Vodafone-compliant AT&T SIM card back into the iPhone.

The user said that the handset fully works with this new card and that all its functions are fully enabled. It only lacks voicemail, while placing calls and using SMS messages are available. There has been no word on EDGE capabilities of the phone, although the user claimed that his iPhone is close to being fully functional.

The method is being highly questioned at this time, as there are some problems with the story. The Vodafone employee should have never agreed to switch the AT&T SIM card's code to their company, as numbers differ and it's not a common protocol. The user who claims to have managed to make this work has updated his post at The Unofficial Apple Weblog, which leaves room for further development of the issue.
