According to previous announcements, Apple has decided to limit the development of software for their first phone in order to make it more secure. This is why, to keep the iPhone user happy, Apple is also going to provide the updates and applications for the phone.

While talking to analysts and members of the press on a conference call yesterday, Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's CFO has announced that the iPhone will receive auto updates free of charge after its launch.

Oppenheimer also said that Apple intends to provide customers with the greatest possible experience and that they were "taking this bold step to leverage what we do best". According to Apple, since its release and throughout its lifetime, the iPhone will be getting new software applications and upgrades.

By tracking income from the iPhone with the help of monthly reports from AT&T, Apple will be able to issue upgrades as appropriate. The company is also expected to make an announcement regarding how the phone will be sold through its own website.

Several surveys revealed that many customers in the US are ready to give up their current wireless carriers and phones in order to get an iPhone from AT&T. Considering the increasing demand for the iPhone, Apple should be prepared to ship quite a lot of units.

When asked about the volume of phones that Apple is producing before the launch, Apple's chief operating officer Tim Cook only stated that "It's very difficult to tell what demand is until you're shipping the product". But it's already beyond a doubt that the iPhone will record massive sales.
