Softpedia reported yesterday that ThinkFlood had introduced its new RedEye mini for iPhone and iPod touch. Comprised of both hardware and software, the solution reportedly requires iPhone OS 3.2, suggesting Apple is preparing to roll out the new major update for iPhone and iPod touch, in tandem with the iPad’s release.

“RedEye mini offers the power of RedEye, but in a convenient travel size,” the company says. “Use RedEye mini with your iPhone or iPod touch at home, work, with friends and family, or while on business or pleasure travel to control your TV, stereo, cable box, DVD player, and many other devices that receive standard (infrared) signals. The best part? You can pick up a mini this spring for less than $50,” ThinkFlood informs.

Shortly after the announcement was made, 9to5mac picked up the story, noticing an interesting tidbit – the RedEye mini requires iPhone OS 3.2, the same software version found on Apple’s upcoming iPad. It notes that, “Interestingly, [RedEye mini] requires OS 3.2, which would seem to be coming rather soon now, wouldn't it? With iPad's release on March 26th – or thereabouts – the iPad will have OS 3.2, so it shouldn't be a surprise if Apple updates the whole lineup at that point.” Whether or not accurate, it wouldn’t be too big of a surprise to see iPhone OS 3.2 pop up in iTunes later this month, when users connect their devices to sync stuff up.

For those who are more interested in ThinkFlood’s product, rather than Apple software updates, RedEye mini will be available this spring. The universal remote control solution will be available in around 47 countries, and will be sold through participating dealers and retailers, in addition to ThinkFlood’s site.

Upon shipping, customers will only receive the RedEye mini plug-in infrared adapter. However, in order to make it work with various IR-capable devices, the RedEye app is also required. It is a free download from iTunes/App Store. According to the list of requirements (which indeed includes the reference to “iPhone OS 3.2”), the RedEye mini is not supported on first-generation iPhones.
