Apparently, folks have begun wondering whether there will be a jailbreak for devices that shipped with 4.0.2/3.2.2, out of the box. According to the iPhone Dev Team, there won’t be.

The Team’s blog post begins with a bit of background information on Jailbreakme v2.0 which, according to the hackers, was a great success.

In addition to becoming popular among jailbreakers, the tool provided what the Team calls “a nice leveling point for all jailbreakers and unlockers on all devices at firmware versions less than 4.0.2/3.2.2.”

The internationally known group of hackers notes that those who captured their SHSH blobs via Cydia or locally will benefit from the jailbreakme.com v2.0 release indefinitely.

The team congratulates these users.

“Now it’s a few weeks later, and Apple has closed the jailbreakme.com hole,” the post continues.

“They’re shipping devices with FW 4.0.2/3.2.2, impervious to this particular jailbreak,” notes the Dev Team.

“So now, people will begin to ask: will there be a jailbreak for devices that shipped with 4.0.2/3.2.2, out of the box?”

The answer inevitably comes: “No, there won’t be,” since iOS 4.0.2 and 3.2.2 are considered FW releases, which only targeted the security hole leveraged by JailbreakMe.

“If the cat & mouse game escalates too quickly, especially during beta FW periods, nobody but Apple benefits,” the Team elaborates.

“For this reason, there won’t be a 4.0.2/3.2.2 jailbreak specifically during the period where 4.0.2/3.2.2 is the latest public release,” it outlines.

Providing some degree of comfort to those who’ve bought a device that shipped with either of the two firmware versions, “At best, some future 4.1x FW jailbreak *may* be compatible with 4.0.2/3.2.2 (but don’t count on that),” the Team adds.

The hackers will most likely release a jailbreak tool for iOS 4.1, but only after Apple releases the public version of the software, which should pack fixes to several issues experienced by iPhone users since the release of iOS 4.0.

Softpedia doesn't encourage jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad, or any other device.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
