Localytics, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company, provides a service software that enables iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and Android app publishers to track in real time how customers use their software products.

In addition, a study on this matter has been released. The Localytics analysts compared devices, application categories, days of the week and hours of the day for the survey to reach final eloquent data. The results revealed that mobile apps reach their peaks on weekdays in the US and Canada approximately at 9 p.m, ramp up during the late mornings on weekends and maintain heavy usage throughout the day and into the night, Macworld indicates on their official site.

iPhone app usage during weekends and weekdays is both different in usage patterns and overall scale. Localytics has found that iPhone users generate 7% more traffic on the average weekend day than on the average weekday. Thus, the study points out to the fact that smartphone apps are used more for personal than work purposes.   These studies are highly important for smartphone manufacturers as they can predict consumers’ behavior and preferences. Before its official release, the iPad is seen as a consumer device, but things may change after the official release on the market. Some have declared themselves reserved by its possible enterprise applications, as NetWorkWorld notes.

Intense weeknight and weekend app usage on the iPhone indicates that consumers are already looking for devices that are smaller and more convenient than their desktops and laptops to entertain themselves, plan a trip, check sports scores and listen to music. If the iPad can build on these usage patterns and help bring more applications to approach even more people, then Apple might create yet another blockbuster category, Localytics reports.

Localytics, the app monitoring firm, collaborates with top developers, brands and publishers in order to build more successful and rewarding applications.
