Hon Hai Precision (Foxconn) likely to score a good chunk of orders too

A report from Taiwan states that Pegatron has managed to prove to Apple that it is worthy of building the iPhone 6. So much so that Apple reportedly assigned it half the orders for the initial batch.

Without naming its sources, Liberty Times reveals that assembler Pegatron, which makes a considerable amount of iPhones and iPads for Apple, has started building a new factory in Kunshan, not far from its existing manufacturing plants (Shanghai).

The Kunshan plant is reportedly scheduled to become operational in mid-2014. The factory will start mass production of the next-generation iPhone in late-2014, which goes against rumors that Apple might plan to release the iPhone 6 at WWDC 2014.

The Cupertino giant is said to be developing not one, but two new iPhone models that are completely redesigned and both have larger screens.

One model will reportedly sport a 4.7-inch display, a considerable increase compared to the current 4-inch design, while the other is said to feature a screen that measures 5.7 inches on the diagonal.

This would be Apple’s first-ever phablet, bridging the gap between smartphone and tablet. However, some analysts are skeptical that Apple will go that far.

A hardware leak the other day aimed to build some hype around the iPhone 6, but the images in question have been shot down as fakes. Even worse, some have noticed that the metal frame depicted in those images resembled a Samsung smartphone.

Other rumors surrounding the iPhone 6 include a curved display, a bunch of new sensors (such as an iris scanner), and a larger battery (mainly thanks to the taller/wider form factor). Some of these rumors may materialize, while others obviously won’t, as always.
