People who are allegedly privy to Apple’s ongoing activities surrounding the iPhone 5 launch have indicated that the Cupertino mammoth has begun filming the commercials set to promote the new handset, but noted that the spots will not air until October, lending credence to rumors that the smartphone will not be physically available in September.

Citing a person who is familiar with the matter, AppleInsider claims to have learned that Steve Jobs’ long-time advertising agency, TBWAChiatDay, is now filming the television spots for the iPhone 5.

The shooting is currently taking place in Los Angeles with a schedule that says the ads won’t air until October.

This last bit of information comes by way of a second person with a proven track record who reportedly noted that the production schedule for the first-run campaign is estimated to wrap up well into the month of October.

Many reports have indicated that Apple has a September iPhone 5 event planned, and while that may eventually pan out, it is believed the smartphone itself won’t become physically available until the following month.

In tandem with the expected iPhone 5 announcement, Cupertino may also unveil a low-cost iPhone.

Dubbed by the media 'iPhone 4S', this device is said to be an 8GB version of the current iPhone 4, but featuring slightly poorer performance.

The altered hardware would enable Apple to keep production costs low, and ultimately sell it cheaper, in emerging markets.

It is somewhat improbable that this tidbit will materialize, as Apple has never fiddled with the idea of catering to low-end markets.

However, recent developments in China - the biggest cell phone market in the world - may have prompted Apple to adopt new business strategies. The company's latest quarterly earnings call has shown tremendous growth in the country.
