Dropbox is a popular service enabling users to share all kinds of files, sync data between their devices, and make backups. Available for pretty much every platform out there, the service now adds full iPad support, with an update to the original Dropbox iPhone application.

Released late last year, Dropbox for iPhone lived up to the standards set in place by the desktop version of the app, featuring a simple interface and quick-access controls. Dropbox for iPhone syncs a list of all your Dropbox files and immediately makes them available for download onto your iPhone, or iPod touch.

Some files are viewable on the iPhone, such as PDFs and MP3 music files. Others, like certain video formats, are not. The app sports a Favorites folder, where pretty much everything important can be stored for offline access. The service is heavily dependent on an active Internet connection, since the app talks to the Dropbox servers with every change that occurs on any system the user has the client installed.

Now at version 1.2, Dropbox adds iPad support. Its developers now have an iPad-native version living in the iPad App Store. The iPad client allows users to take advantage of all the features offered in Dropbox for iPhone. It also adds better support for landscape orientation on iPhone & iPod, and can even export documents from Dropbox into third-party iPad apps.

The makers tout their app as being “the easiest way to sync your files online and across computers, and share them with your friends.” Softpedia can confirm that they’re right. Our site has reviewed many versions of the application and regarded it as highly reliable on several occasions. The ever-expanding Dropbox is still available in free form for everyone (with 2GB of storage) while paid plans are also available, for those who heavily rely on backing up their data online.
