A purported iPad 2 LCD “fresh out of China” has made it into the hands of a Mac-centric blog which claims to have noticed a definite boost in quality, in addition to a lighter and thinner design.

Apple’s iPad 2, rumored to emerge relatively soon, allegedly boasts a 9.7 inch LCD display with the same in-plane-switching technology that allows the viewer to enjoy a similarly good viewing experience from various angles.

With the help of iFixYouri, an iPhone repair shop, the folks at 9 to 5 Mac have been able to acquire what they believe is that iPad 2 screen.

“Fresh out of China,” the display doesn’t give away its resolution at first glance, therefore the sources were unable to determine whether or not it is a Retina-breed display.

Some tests will surely reveal this soon, though.

What they were able to determine, according to the report containing pictures of the display in question, is that “it is definitely higher quality in terms of its build.”

In addition to the quality boost, the display is also said to be lighter, and over one millimeter thinner than the current iPad’s screen.

It also has a smaller surrounding frame, the sources claim.

A commenter did some research based on the serial number shown in the pictures, and concluded the following:

(LP)097×02 SLN1= LG Phillips LP(097)x02 SLN1= 9.7 inch display LP097x(02) SLN1= used on displays with xga,sxga,wsxga LP097x02 (SL)N1= H-IPS LP097x02 SL (N1)= Not sure

So Lg Phillips 9.7in XGA 1024×768 H-IPS display

It is widely believed that Apple will not equip iPad 2 units with higher-resolution screens, although the viewing experience should most likely be improved on several other levels - for example, a less-reflective surface.

The new tablet computer is also expected to feature 2 cameras, one on the front and one on the back, as well as additional connectors / ports.
