iOS hacker p0sixninja reportedly mentioned a possible iPad 2 jailbreak release in the next couple of weeks via methods similar to Blackra1n and / or the one-click Spirit application.

According to one Mac-centric blog, Chronic Dev Team member p0sixninja revealed in an interview on Vokle that jailbreak tools for Apple’s iPad 2 were being prepared.

Currently, all jailbreak utilities support the newest iDevices except for the second-generation iPad.

The jailbreak, which will be compatible with IOS 4.3 firmwares and above, will supposedly be similar to current hacks.

Users will reportedly have to put their device into DFU mode in order to start the jailbreak process.

The actual hacking will be handled by tools that are either similar to Blackra1n and Spirit, or updated versions of these particular tools.

In a blog post dated May 6th, the infamous iPhone Dev Team provided the first ‘official’ word on the ongoing efforts to jailbreak Apple’s iPad 2.

The team said “The iPad2 jailbreak remains under development … [as] the original exploit @comex developed in the first week of the iPad2 release was mysteriously fixed by Apple within days of its development.”

“Partly because of this, don’t expect much public discussion of the iPad2 jailbreak until it’s actually finished and ready for release (and please avoid asking about it),” the team cautioned.

What they could put their finger on was the fact that “In all liklihood [sic], it will be a userland exploit like the first (unreleased) one, not dependent on bootrom dumps.”

The iPad 2 not only boasts different hardware (when compared to its predecessor), but it also comes with a special version of iOS which includes software geared towards the built-in cameras, the enhanced processing and graphical output, and more. These aspects make its iOS more difficult to jailbreak.

However, it’s also known that the iPhone Dev Team generally focuses its iOS hacking efforts on the most widely spread devices, such as the iPhone and iPod touch, therefore leaving the iPad 2 for last was pretty much a given.
