14 DAY TRIAL // On Tuesday, Apple deployed a number of updates for mobile and desktop users addressing a truckload of issues, including many security flaws that were putting iOS and OS X at risk. Unfortunately, some of the issues reported in iOS persist to this day.
With iOS 8.1.3, Apple promised to address issues like the amount of storage required to perform a software update, problems with entering the Apple ID password for Messages and FaceTime, Spotlight not displaying app results, kinks with multitasking gestures, and more.
Issues inherited from previous versions
Unfortunately, Apple did nothing to address a number of ongoing issues, some of which had been reported since around the time iOS 8 was originally deployed. For example, some users (admittedly not many) continue to experience Wi-Fi connectivity issues. Some even noticed that their Wi-Fi connections were slower or inactive only after applying iOS 8.1.3.
A calendar bug involving GMT time zones which has been reported for months continues to plague users. This one is so serious that it has caused many business folks to miss appointments, which is certainly something Apple should have looked into while developing iOS 8.1.3. Customers are left with choosing a third-party calendar app and moving the stock iOS Calendar app into the “junk” folder that many have admitted to creating solely for useless Apple apps.
Battery meter, constant freezes
iOS 8.1.3 also doesn’t do anything to fix the issue involving the battery percentage jumping erratically to 10 or more percentage points (both upwards when charging and downwards when around the red zone – 20%).
Some iPad users report random reboots after installing iOS 8.1.3, and some iPhone 6 users claim the update froze their device during installation. A Bluetooth problem also lives on in the new firmware. Some of these reports are clearly isolated, but we have every indication that Apple still has numerous flaws to address in the software.
