Most reports come from users of old iPads and iPhones

Late last month, Apple released iOS 8.1.3 to the masses promising to deal a blow to some bugs. As it turns out, the firmware also comes with a few caveats of its own, according to some users.

This is by no means a confirmed problem, but the page view count to this particular thread might suggest that at least some people are affected. As we’re sure you’ll agree, even if you’re the only one out of a million users who is having problems, you still want a fix.

All was fine prior to iOS 8.1.3

The interesting thing is that it seems battery life is particularly affected on old-generation hardware, like the iPad 2 or the iPhone 5. Sometimes this is normal. Aging devices are prone to holding less and less of a charge. However, when everyone sings the same tune - namely that all was fine pre-update - it becomes apparent that the firmware is to blame.

It’s worth noting that at least one iPhone 6 user also claims to be experiencing battery life problems under the new firmware.

Again, this is by no means a widespread issue, and frankly almost every new iOS release seems to yield such reports. However, if there’s a problem that Apple should look into, we’d like to know we were able to lend a helping hand and create awareness with this report.

Plenty of updates in the works

The bad news (at least for these users) is that there aren’t any more planned updates in the near future. The good news is that Apple is currently testing four separate iOS builds for release sometime in the next few months. The first such update will most likely be iOS 8.2. The release is expected to coincide with the launch of the Apple Watch around April.
