“Redesigned with a more streamlined interface for easier reading and writing”

Studies show that numerous owners of an Apple iPad are using their sleek tablet computer primarily as an email machine. Apple knows this, and they’re introducing an even better Mail experience in iOS 6, available this fall.

I personally find the iOS 5 Mail app flawless. But flawless doesn’t mean there isn’t room for new stuff.

In iOS 6, Mail is getting a new interface, but it is retaining the ubiquitous two-pane view in landscape and one-page view in portrait.

The new stuff includes a VIP folder for emails arriving from people who matter most to you, easier ways to include media (attachments), and the ability to pull down to refresh your inbox.

It’s really just the natural way to do email on a tablet. And Apple is bringing it all in iOS 6:

“Redesigned with a more streamlined interface for easier reading and writing, Mail in iOS 6 lets you set up a VIP list so you’ll never miss an important message from your accountant, your boss, or your BFF. It’s even easier to add photos and videos to email messages. And to refresh your mailboxes, all you have to do is swipe down.”

Mail is iCloud-enabled, so your VIP list will display your important messages on any device, regardless of which one you use at any given time.

Adding imagery is much easier, as you don’t have to keep multi-tasking between apps to get to a photograph, or video clip.

VIP list and VIP and Flagged smart mailboxes will be available on iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and the third-generation iPad.

iOS 6 delivers this and tons more features (check out the related links below), and you’ll be able to get a glimpse at it this fall. Keep in mind that iPhone 3GS will be missing out on most of the new stuff, while even some newer devices, like the iPhone 4, will not be compatible with some features.
