According to a report by Mac4ever, Apple is on track to update its iLife suite of applications on August 7, 2010, Dubbed iLife '11, the package is said to include a number of new features, and a mystery new application. The last major revision to iLife was version '09, announced at Macworld 2009.

Last week, talk of Apple revamping not only iLife, but also iWork emerged when Amazon.com showed the availability of two books hinting at the existence of the new suites. Apple has not provided any indication that it plans to release new versions of iLife and iWork, although doing so would be untypical for the company. The latest rumor saying iLIfe 10/11 is scheduled for release comes from the aforementioned Mac4ever (via Macworld.co.uk), which claims to have learned the following:

- ILife '11 will be sold for $79 - Release Date of 08/07/2010 - All applications will be 64-bit - Improvements in iPhoto faces & places - Improving the integration of social networks - IWeb will be totally renewed - New application (mystery!) - Disappearance of iDVD - MobileMe gallery in beta (with faces & places)

iLife is comprised of five applications developed by Apple specifically for its Mac OS X operating system. These are iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb and GarageBand. The applications assist users in editing, and creating music and video, as well as to manage their photos and other types of content. iWeb is specifically aimed at those who want to create a good looking web site for themselves.

Apple’s move to drop iDVD would not come as a surprise. On its official web site, Apple emphasizes iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand and iWeb as the pillars of the suite:

iPhoto ’09 - Organize photos two new ways: Faces, based on who’s in your photos, and Places, based on where your photos were taken. Then share on Facebook or Flickr with a click.

iMovie ’09 - Make a great movie in the time you have. Choose a dynamic theme to enhance your movie in seconds. Or refine every shot with the Precision Editor.

GarageBand ’09 - Learn to play piano and guitar. Learn songs from the artists who made them famous. Rock like a legend with new guitar amps and stompbox effects.

iWeb ’09 - Design a website to share your photos, movies, and music just by dragging and dropping. Add new dynamic widgets and publish and share with a click.
