Although seemingly intended as an April Fools day joke, iFixit appears to be legitimately selling an iPhone 4 Oppression Kit ($9.99) which includes two Pentalobe screws and two screwdrivers ‘to lock down your phone from prying hands.’

For those who own an iPhone 4 equipped with regular Philips screws, the task is simple: buy the kit, use the Philips screwdriver to remove the Philips Screws, put the Pentalobe screws instead, and use the Pentalobe driver to seal the device tight.

Of course, there’s no reason to do this really, but you never know when you might need that Pentalobe screwdriver to pop open another Apple device equipped with the wretched hardware.

“Don’t jeopardize such a beautiful creation with your negligence and ignorance. Buy the Pentalobe Oppression Kit today — if you swap your screws back fast enough, your family will still be there when you get home to thank you!”, reads iFixit’s advertisment.

“To ensure 100% maximum protection, we’re selling these Pentalobe screws as part of a kit — the iPhone 4 Oppression Kit,” the announcement continues.

The kit, apparently sold for real, includes the following:

- Two Pentalobe screws to replace the the Apple-fretting Phillips screws you unlocked your phone with. - Two screwdrivers for the task: a Phillips driver for the old screws, and a Pentalobe driver for the new screws. - iPhone 4 Oppression Kit card, which you should keep in your wallet as a faithful card-carrying member.

iFixit jokes saying the card boasts an “Apple-approved” color - namely, white.

The kit also bears the message “Designed by iFixit in California” as a jab at Apple’s own products, most of which are imprinted with “Designed by Apple in California, assembled in China”.

iFixit makes its profits out of selling tools for people eager to repair their iDevices on their own, rather than pay Apple for the servicing. The company is also well known for its comprehensive hardware teardowns.
