14 DAY TRIAL // Huawei announced its own smartwatch during MWC 2015 in Barcelona and made the Huawei Watch available for purchase later in the year for the price of $349.99 (€320) for the cheapest model and $799 (€730) for the variant with gold-plated stainless steel casing.
Now, a report from Venture Beat states that the second-generation Huawei Watch would arrive next month, possibly during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but nothing is set in stone. MWC 2017 is set to debut on February 27 and end on March 2.
Huawei Watch 2 could feature a “sportier” look compared to the original model, which means that it might be slimmer than 11.3mm. Huawei didn’t only change the design of the Huawei Watch, but it also reportedly added built-in cellular data features.
Huawei Watch 2 might come with cellular connectivity
One variant of the Huawei Watch 2 might incorporate a SIM-card, which will reportedly enable data connections when the device isn’t paired with a smartphone or WiFi networks are out of range. The smartwatch will also have the ability to place and receive phone calls.
The previous Huawei Watch did offer users the option to make voice phone calls over Bluetooth, but it meant that the device would need to permanently be in the vicinity of a smartphone in order to do so. Huawei Watch came with a 1.4-inch full circle AMOLED display with 400x400 pixel resolution and 286 ppi.
It was 42mm in diameter and had a 300mAh battery with Bluetooth 4.1 and WiFi support. The smartwatch was made out of stainless steel and had Sapphire crystal coating. It had 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. When it comes to sensors, Huawei Watch had a 6-axis motion sensor (gyroscope and accelerometer), heart rate sensor, barometer and vibration motor.
On February 9, Google is expected to launch Android Wear 2.0 and unveil two new smartwatches made by LG, the LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style.
