14 DAY TRIAL // Huawei announced its latest flagship smartphones, the P10 and P10 Plus, during MWC 2017, and the phones come with powerful rear cameras. One of the main selling points of Huawei’s P series is the main camera.
DxOMark conducted tests on the dual-camera setup of Huawei P10 and ranked the phone among the top flagships on the market. DxOMark is a trusted industry standard for camera and lens image quality measurements and ratings.
The agency ranked Google’s Pixel main camera as the best on the market, followed by HTC 10, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Sony Xperia X Performance with a score of 88 points. Huawei’s P10 recorded a score of 87 points, just two points behind the Pixel.
Based on the score, the P10 apparently provides similar camera performances to the Moto Z Force Droid, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, Sony Xperia XZ and Xperia Z5.
Good performance for photo stills
DxOMark’s report mentions that Huawei P10’s 12MP+20MP Leica lenses provide good exposure in all conditions, including low light, and good color rendering with accurate white balance. The dual-camera setup performs well with detail and texture preservation, producing sharp images. Autofocus is fast, accurate and repeatable in trigger and auto mode.
When it comes to video, the P10 offers 1080p recording at 60fps, together with 2160p higher-resolution at 30fps for moving image capture. Moreover, recorded videos feature good exposure with accurate dynamic range and white balance in all conditions.
However, the report mentioned that the camera has some difficulty in low light situations and produces some underexposed areas and luminance noise, but does a good job overall. In addition, a slight difference in sharpness between consecutive frames with walking motion was recorded. DxOMark only reviewed Huawei P10, which has the same SUMMARIT-H lens as its predecessor, while the P10 Plus comes with a newer version that would supposedly score better.
