The impact of U.S. sanctions is fading, the company says

Huawei is no longer struggling with the impact of the U.S. sanctions, as the company has started doing business as usual.

This is what the company’s rotating chairman Eric Xu said recently, with a report from Reuters citing him as saying that the restrictions imposed by the United States are the new normal.

While Huawei’s sales increased only 0.02 percent, the company seems to be pleased with the direction it has embraced, especially as the impact of the restrictions is now insignificant.

Last year, for example, Huawei’s sales went down 30 percent year-on-year, especially because of the sanctions imposed by the American government. This year, however, the sales went up slightly, therefore proving that Huawei has managed to cope with the impact.

“U.S. restrictions are now our new normal, and we're back to business as usual. The macro environment may be rife with uncertainty, but what we can be certain about is that digitisation and decarbonisation are the way forward, and they're where future opportunities lie,” the Huawei CEO explained.

Back in 2019, the United States banned Huawei from using software and hardware developed by American companies. As a result, the Chinese tech behemoth started investing in alternatives to the software it was using at that point.

With Android now a forbidden product, Huawei switched to HarmonyOS, an operating system that eventually ended up powering more than just smartphones. Furthermore, the company started the work on a series of alternatives to Google services as well.

For example, Huawei’s replacement for Google Maps is Petal Maps, and it’s a navigation app that’s rapidly evolving, with new capabilities added at a fast pace. The company wants to stick with this strategy in the long term, despite the impact of the U.S. restrictions now fading.
