There have been rumors that Huawei is working on an upcoming smartphone, the successor to the Mate 8. Apparently, the smartphone showed up in leaked images, and some of its specs were revealed as well. Now, Playfuldroid reports that Huawei will be offering three variants of the Mate 9.

The main difference between these variants will be the RAM capacity and internal storage. As it turns out, the first variant will have the least internal storage and RAM capacity, 64GB and 4GB, respectively.

The second variant will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of local space, while the premium model will come with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. If these specs are true, Huawei's Mate 9 will be one of the most powerful smartphones on the market.

Huawei Mate 9 could have Leica dual-camera setup on the back

Previous rumors have stated that the smartphone would arrive during the last month of the year, but it seems that Huawei might announce it significantly sooner, at the end of October. As you might expect, Huawei is big in China and a recent survey revealed that 26.3% of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 owners would switch to a Huawei smartphone.

The Mate 9 would surely be a worthy option, considering that the smartphone is also expected to come with a dual camera setup on the back made by Leica, and if they're at least as advanced as the cameras on the P9 or P9 Plus, then Huawei has got another winner on its hands.

The Mate 9 might also come with a 5.9-inch QHD display and run the latest HiSilicon Kirin 960 64-bit chip with eight cores. Battery capacity could reach an impressive 4,000mAh. The smartphone will be offered in multiple colors, including gold, white, silver, black and pink.

Huawei Mate 9 might also come with a fingerprint scanner located below the dual cameras on the back. It will also have the Huawei logo on the lower back panel.
