Last September, Huawei released the Mate S smartphone with Force Touch technology underneath the display. It was one of the strong points of this device, and many expected Huawei to incorporate the same technology in Mate 8. Sadly, it didn’t, but the company might be debuting a new version of the Mate 8, which will have Force Touch.

Huawei officially unveiled the Mate 8 in China last year, and during CES 2016, the company announced that the smartphone would be available around the world this year. While it did have some impressive specs, the smartphone didn’t come with Force Touch.

Apparently, the company has decided to develop a new variant of the Mate 8, which will incorporate this technology. Force Touch is quite similar to Apple’s 3D Touch on iPhones. The technology allows the display to read the pressure level that users apply when pressing down the screen.

It can distinguish between a light screen tap, medium force or hard force. The phone is set to respond differently to each level of force.

Mate 8 with Force Touch has been spotted at TENAA

The device that has received TENAA certification has the same specs as the initial Mate 8 variant, but it comes with the addition of Force Touch. Huawei Mate 8 featured a 6-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels.

The smartphone also packs a Kirin 950 chipset and an octa-core 2.3GHz CPU, coupled with Mali-T880 MP4 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It’s available in multiple variants, depending on the size of internal storage, respectively 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. Additional capacity can be obtained by using a 128GB microSD card.

Rear camera capacity reaches 16MP, with OIS and f/2.0 aperture also provided. Moreover, it sports an 8MP front camera and a fingerprint sensor on the back. Huawei Mate 8 draws power from a 4,000mAh battery and runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 with Emotion 4.0 UI on top.
