One of the not so many mid-range Android smartphones launched by Huawei in the United States, the GX8 is now available for purchase through multiple retailers across the country.

The smartphone was released last year in China but made its debut in other markets soon afterwards. Early last month, Huawei announced the GX would be available in the United States beginning February.

True to its promise, Huawei confirmed that customers in the United States can now purchase the GX8 for $350 outright.

Aside from the company's online store, Best Buy, Newegg and Amazon are also offering the smartphone in Mystic Champagne, Space Grey, and Horizon Gold color options.

Unlike the Chinese version that packs a Snapdragon 615 chipset inside, the US variant comes with an updated octa-core Snapdragon 616 processor clocked at 1.5GHz.

The smartphone includes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Refreshing design, unique fingerprint sensor features

Featuring a metal design, Huawei GX8 looks much better than many mid-range Android smartphones in the same price range.

The GX8 comes with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera that features autofocus, OIS (optical image stabilization), dual-tone LED flash and video recording, as well as a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera.

There's also a fingerprint sensor on the back cover, below the main camera. Aside from the usual security features, the fingerprint sensor accepts swipes and taps that trigger various functions of the smartphone. This is something innovative that other handset makers haven't yet included in their devices.

Huawei GX8 is powered by a non-removable 3,000 mAh battery and sports a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

Although it ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system onboard, Huawei announced that the GX8 would receive an upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow sometime later this year.
