Huawei has a hard time dealing with the U.S. sanctions, and launching new products is without a doubt a challenge, especially as it’s no longer allowed to work with American companies and use their software and hardware.

The Chinese tech giant, however, is still very keen on improving its existing device lineups, so today it took the wraps of the new Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro, the company’s latest addition to the GT series.

Despite being announced with much fanfare, Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro actually didn’t get a lot of stage time today, and the parent company didn’t share too many details about it.

But what we do know is that the device is supposed to come with insane battery life. Huawei says the new Watch GT 2 Pro should easily last two weeks per charge, albeit the battery life could obviously drop depending on how you use it.

At the same time, the fitness side of the watch has received a boost too, with no less than 100 workout modes now available.

“The new HUAWEI WATCH GT 2 Pro not only come with features that consumers have come to love on the HUAWEI WATCH GT Series, the elegantly modern smartwatch also offers up to two weeks of battery life, more than 100 workout modes, plus pro-grade fitness data tracking features,” the company says.

The new device comes with activity monitoring for skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, and golf driving range, and in addition to standard data, users should also get more accurate heart rate tracking thanks to an upgraded sensor. The new watch comes with Huawei’s TruSeen 4.0+, the-new generation system specifically optimized for more accurate heart rate ratings.

Needless to say, Huawei has spent a lot of time to make the device look good, so it features a premium build quality that’s on par with the one of other high-end watches on the market.

“The new flagship smartwatch launches with a rugged design featuring premium materials, including a sapphire watch crystal, titanium case and skin-friendly ceramic case back that combines with another sapphire glass black to enhance monitoring accuracy and wearing comfort. Additionally, HUAWEI WATCH GT 2 Pro supports apps to provide a convenient means for users to get even more features. Huawei also plans to further augment the smart experience on offer in the future,” it says.

One of the biggest additions of the new model is wireless charging. Beginning with this release, Huawei watches come with a ceramic back that allows customers to charge them without a cable. It goes without saying this is a massive upgrade, especially because previous models have only allowed charging through the standard connector on the device.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the Watch GT 2 Pro, as Huawei hasn’t disclosed anything related to pricing or availability. The device obviously should be too expensive given that it’s in direct competition with the Apple Watch, but full information will be provided at a later time.

As to when we expect the new watch to hit the shelves, this will most likely happen by the end of the year.

The timing of today’s announcement just makes sense, especially as Apple is also preparing to announce a new Apple Watch on September 15. Apple is likely to begin selling the Apple Watch Series 6 by the end of the month, so Huawei should better not wait for too long to bring the new Watch GT 2 Pro to the market, especially if it wants some exclusive time on the market.
