After announcing the U Ultra and U Play, HTC is working on its upcoming HTC U smartphone, also known as HTC Ocean. Information about the upcoming flagship has leaked recently, pointing towards a 5.5-inch Super LCD display and IP57 certification.

A recent report reveals that HTC’s upcoming flagship will feature IP57 certification, which means that it can be submerged in 3.3 feet of water for as long as 30 minutes without recording any damages. Furthermore, the certification ensures that the HTC U is protected against damages caused by particles larger than 1mm in size.

Another interesting piece of information is the fact that the HTC U might not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, just like on last year’s Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, or Motorola’s Moto Z smartphone.

More and more smartphone makers have started to ditch the headphone jack on their premium devices, while some users are clearly displeased. Motorola is also rumored to bring back the 3.5mm jack on this year’s Moto Z2 Force, thus pleasing users who weren’t comfortable using the USB Type-C to 3.5mm adaptor which came with the flagship.

4GB of RAM and Snapdragon 835 platform

Previous rumors about the HTC U reveal that the smartphone might come with a 5.5-inch Super LCD display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and run the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 platform, together with 4GB of RAM.

When it comes to the battery capacity inside the phone, HTC U could draw power from a 3,000mAh battery and feature 64GB of internal storage. A 12MP rear camera could be featured on the back of the phone, together with a 16MP front-facing selfie camera.

One of the smartphone’s highlights will be the Edge Sense touch-sensitive frame that will allow users to perform various actions using gestures like wiping or squeezing the phone’s edge. The smartphone will also be available in single and dual-SIM configurations.
