14 DAY TRIAL // HTC has been working on an upcoming smartwatch for some time now, and it seems that images of the upcoming HTC Halfbeak watch have surfaced online. The images showed up over at TechTastic and reveal that the smartwatch will be running Android Wear.
HTC’s upcoming smartwatch is codenamed Halfbeak and will have a 360 x 360 pixel resolution display, similar to the one found on Motorola Moto 360. In addition, the unit has the Under Armour logo on the back. The sports clothing and accessories company partnered with HTC on Healthbox, a fitness system that helps users measure, monitor and manage a variety of factors regarding their health.
The leaked images show that the smartwatch will come with an optical heart rate monitor and a four pin charging system. It’s difficult to say what material HTC used to make the watch’s case, but the photos do reveal that it might be metal.
HTC Halfbeak could come with two round buttons
The smartwatch seems to have two round buttons on the side, as well as an oblong one. The pictures clearly show the smartwatch running Android Wear 2.0 and a rubber wristband on the device.
The HTC Halfbeak might also come with a 1.8-inch display, a 100mAh battery and IP57 certification, but that remains to be seen. Rumors also say that the HTC smartwatch might incorporate Qualcomm’s first wearable processor, the Snapdragon Wear 2100. As usual, the specs aren’t final until the company actually releases the device.
It’s difficult to say when HTC will finally announce the product. The company postponed the launch date from this sprint to this fall, but an exact launch date is unclear at this point.
More information will likely surface in the coming weeks, and HTC might still announce the upcoming Halfbeak smartwatch by the end of the year or at least in time for the holidays.
