14 DAY TRIAL // At the beginning of this month, HTC launched a new smartphone in the Desire series, the HTC Desire 830. Now, the Taiwanese manufacturer of smartphones and tablets seems set to launch another phone in the series, the HTC Desire 628. It appeared on the company’s Vietnam website, which revealed images of the upcoming phone, as well as some specification details.
Just a few days ago, images and specs of the upcoming Desire 628 surfaced online, revealing that the new HTC phone would have rounded edges and a plastic build. It will come with BoomSound speakers with the ability to play 24-bit audio.
The rumors are now confirmed by the company’s official posting of the new phone in its Desire mid-range series. The HTC Desire 628 Dual SIM has approximately the same specifications as the Desire 830, with some slight differences in size, processor and camera.
The Desire 628 Dual SIM has a 5-inch HD display, with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels and 294ppi density. The Desire 830’s display is slightly larger, at 5.5 inches and 401ppi pixel density due to the higher resolution (1080 x 1920 pixels).
It comes with dual-SIM standby support and 4G LTE connectivity, as well as the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options. The company listing doesn’t specify which Android version the smartphone will run. However, since Desire 830 came with Android Marshmallow 6.0., we can expect the 628 to feature the same OS version, with HTC’s firmware Sense UI on top.
3GB of RAM and up to 2TB expandable memory
Desire 628 is set to come with an unspecified 1.3GHz octa-core SoC, rumored to be the MediaTek MT6753. It will also have 3GB of RAM, the same as the Desire 830. The rear camera should have 13MP with f/2.0 aperture and 5MP with f/2.4 aperture in the front. By comparison, the Desire 830 came with the same back camera but had a 4MP UltraPixel camera in the front, with a better aperture of f/2.0.
Internal storage is set to reach 32GB, which can be expanded to 2TB with the help of a microSD card. The phone’s components will draw power from a 2200 mAh battery with fast charging support. HTC Desire 628 is 9.8mm thick and weights 142 grams.
The Vietnamese company didn’t mention the smartphone’s availability or price range, but HTC Desire 628 is expected to hit the markets in Vietnam and possibly China soon.
