HTC fans might be pleased to know that their favorite company plans to change the name of its most beloved family of smartphones, One.

According to reports coming from China via MyDrivers and Mobile-dad websites, the next flagship smartphone coming from HTC will not bear the “One” brand.

Instead, HTC will launch its new high-end smartphone as HTC O2. The same sources claim the smartphone will be officially unveiled later this year, while a mini version of the O2 will be launched on the market in early 2016.

While there's a small chance that the O2 will be unveiled in early September at IFA 2015 trade fair, HTC might want to announce the device during a dedicated event sometime in October.

The good news is the smartphone should be available for purchase beginning late 2015, and judging by the leaked specs, it will be a real beast.

It might be too early to come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow onboard

HTC O2 is said to be equipped with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 820 processor. In addition, the device will pack an Adreno 530 graphics processing unit and no less than 4GB of RAM.

Furthermore, the O2 will boast a huge 6-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution and 490ppi (pixel per inch).

The smartphone is likely to ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, but we don't rule out the possibility of coming out with Android 6.0 Marshmallow onboard at launch.

Rumors also claim HTC O2 will pack a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back with f/1.9 aperture, while in the front there will be a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

Last but not least, the smartphone will be powered by a large 3,500 mAh battery and rumors suggest it will feature 2.5D screen glass.
