HTC fans might remember that a mid-range Android smartphone going by the name of Desire 728 was certified at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission, back in July.

We assumed that the smartphone would be officially introduced in China a few weeks later, but that didn't happen.

The good news is the Taiwanese handset maker has finally taken the wraps off the Desire 728, which is now available for purchase in China, a new report confirms.

Customers can get it for only $270, which seems like a good deal considering the phone's specs sheet. It's unclear whether or not the Desire 728 will be released in other countries, but there's a high chance that the smartphone will be priced higher in other regions.

Anyway, let's see what the HTC Desire 728 has to offer in terms of specs. First of all, it's worth mentioning that smartphone ships with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box and the latest HTC Sense UI on top of it.

A global rollout might increase its price tag

On the inside, the mid-range smartphone is equipped with a 64-bit 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, which is complemented by a Mali-T720 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

HTC Desire 728 comes with 16GB of storage inside, which can further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot. Another strong point of the smartphone would be the 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

There's also a secondary 5-megapixel camera in the front for selfies and video calls. The Desire 728 is powered by a 2,800 mAh battery that features fast charging technology, but it has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

Connectivity-wise, HTC Desire 728 is an all-rounder. It comes with both dual-SIM and 4G LTE support, as well as other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS support.
