Cricket customers will be pleased to know that their favorite carrier will add a new affordable Android smartphone to its portfolio, the HTC Desire 520.

Despite the fact that the Desire family usually refers to mid-range smartphones, the HTC Desire 520 sits at the bottom of this category.

The good news is the device will come preloaded with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box and HTC Sense 7 UI on top of it.

It's also worth mentioning Cricket will be the only carrier in the United States to offer the HTC Desire 520, so if affordable smartphones are your thing, then this is the only place where you can get it; at least for now.

According to Cricket, HTC Desire 520 will be available for purchase on September 11 for $99.99 with activation on a smartphone plan.

Among the highlights of the smartphone, the carrier mentions the fact that it comes with two cameras and an interesting “Double Exposure” function, as well as Extreme Power Saving Mode for better battery life.

Modest specs sheet

Moving on to specs, HTC Desire 520 is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, an Adreno 304 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

In addition, the smartphone packs only 8GB of storage inside, but users can further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card.

Also, the Desire 520 sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution. On the back, the device features an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, while on the back there's a modest 2-megapixel selfie camera.

Last but not least, the smartphone is powered by a 2,000 mAh battery and offers many connectivity options including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS support.
