Collaborating on the open-source world has become a priority for more companies, including the ones that previously hated this ecosystem (I’m looking at you, Microsoft!), so nonprofits like The Linux Foundation keep expanding regularly with the addition of new members.

This week, TLF announced that no less than 34 organizations decided to support its projects and join the effort, including famous names like HP and BlockStream.

Of these 34 new members, 29 of them will join The Linux Foundation as Silver members, while the other 5 will act as Associate members.

“We are extremely excited to see 34 more companies make the commitment to open source by joining the Linux Foundation,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director, the Linux Foundation. “These organizations, which represent a huge range of industries from around the globe, will contribute valuable resources and knowledge to an already expansive open source ecosystem.”

You can find the full list of members, including Silver and Associate, in the box after the jump.

High-profile members

Existing members of The Linux Foundation include tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Apple, but also mobile companies such as Samsung and Huawei.

The nonprofit organization was founded in 2000 and it already includes more than 1,000 members, becoming the largest project of its kind in the open-source world.

Microsoft itself joined The Linux Foundation in 2016 at a time when the new CEO Satya Nadella was trying to completely overhaul the image of the company after his predecessor described Linux as “a cancer.”

Microsoft has since made huge progress in this world with open-sourced versions of PowerShell and Visual Studio code, while also bringing several Linux distros right on Windows 10, including the super-popular Ubuntu.

In the meantime, Microsoft has stepped even further in the open-source ecosystem with high-profile acquisitions, including of Xamarin and GitHub.
