Horizon Forbidden West is the latest game delayed until 2022. Although Sony was expected to provide a release date for Horizon Zero Dawn’s sequel during one of its State of Play events, the Japanese company decided to take advantage of gamescom 2021 to announce the news.

Mathijs de Jonge, Game Director, Guerilla confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West will no longer launched in 2021. Instead, the studio said the game now has a different release date: February 18, 2022. The reasons behind the delay are not hard to guess, the global pandemic and all the intricacies of working remotely.

It’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic; we have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges, while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance. While the decision to move the game’s launch to 2022 certainly wasn’t easy, we’d like to take a moment to thank all of our fans for their unwavering support,” said Mathijs de Jonge.

The good news is that for the first time since the game was officially unveiled, we have a release date for Horizon Forbidden West. Although the game releases in about six months from now, pre-orders start on September 2, so fans of the series might want to ready their wallets for those amazing Collector’s Editions that will probably be revealed next week.

Just to be clear, Horizon Zero Dawn will initially be launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 18, 2022. A PC version might be released after a year or so, but this is just a guess based on what happened with the first game in the series.

On a related note, Guerilla Games announced that it has released an Enhanced Performance Patch for Horizon Zero Dawn players on PlayStation 5. The patch allows them to enjoy a targeted 60fps as a free update.
