Great news for Honor fans, as the Chinese company is very close to releasing the highly anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update for its classy Honor 8 smartphone.

Initially slated for a February launch, it seems that Android 7.0 Nougat will arrive much earlier for some Honor 8 owners. Huawei Japan has just confirmed that the rollout of the update will begin on January 16.

Even though the update is supposed to hit Honor 8 devices in Japan, we can safely assume that it will propagate to other countries in the coming weeks.

As per Huawei Japan's announcement, Android 7.0 Nougat along with EMUI 5.0 will arrive on all Honor 8 devices in the country in about one month since the start of the rollout.

The Honor 8 would be the second smartphone to run Android 7.0 Nougat after Huawei Mate 9, which is about to make its debut on the market. It will also be the first Huawei smartphone to receive the Nougat update in 2017, but others are expected to follow soon.

According to Huawei Japan, customers in the country who own the Honor 8 should expect a fairly sizable update, as the Android 7.0 Nougat weighs in at around 2GB. That means that you should make sure that you have enough storage space on your Honor 8 before attempting to update.

It's also recommended to back up all your personal data prior to downloading the update. The phone's battery should be at least half charged for the update process to successfully complete.

In terms of changes, Huawei Japan mentioned a few improvements of its own, aside from the usual new features included in the Android 7.0 Nougat update.

For example, the update should bring some system optimizations and better app versatility. Also, some stability improvements will be added as well.

If you own the Honor 8, but aren't located in Japan, then you will have to wait a few more weeks for Android 7.0 Nougat to arrive on your smartphone.
