It's been 20 years since the release of the original Homeworld game and just 3 since Deserts of Kharak, and Gearbox announced the series will get a fifth title. During its PAX West panel, Gearbox revealed Homeworld 3 will be developed by Blackbird Interactive, the studio founded by original Homeworld Art Director Rob Cunningham.
The game is scheduled for release in Q4 2020 and it's been in pre-production for a few months. But that's not the only interesting information related to Homeworld 3 revealed by Gearbox. It looks like the publisher decided to put the project on Fig in an attempt to bring developers and players closer together.
There's no goal amount for the crowdfunding campaign since the reason for it is purely to make the game better with the help of the Homeworld community.

Along with the first trailer of the game, we're also getting some details about what we should expect from Homeworld 3. First off, Blackbird Interactive aims to offer players a powerful story that picks up just at the end of Homeworld 2.
Also, Homeworld 3 is supposed to deliver best-in-class fleet combat in fully-3D space. More importantly, there will be some multiplayer options available at launch, which is one of the features Fig supporters will have a chance to influence.
Since the start of the crowdfunding campaign on Fig, nearly 900 people pledged their money for a total of about $140,000. The minimum amount that players can pledge is $50, which will buy them a bundle that includes a digital copy of Homeworld 3 and access to developer's backer-only Discord.
