Video game developer Dambuster Studios and publisher Deep Silver are announcing that they are planning to launch Homefront: The Revolution on May 17 of this year on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PC, with plans to give some gamers access to a beta for the same game during February.

The date was rumored a few days before the confirmation from the two companies arrived and it represents good news for fans of the title, which has been delayed to make sure that the quality remains as high as possible.

The beta stage for Homefront: The Revolution will run only on the Xbox One at some unspecified date during February and will allow gamers to join in groups of four to test the online cooperative missions that will be an important part of the shooter.

To keep interest among gamers high, Dambusters and Deep Silver are also delivering a new trailer for the title, which is designed to show off how daily life is in an America that's under Korean domination and how the protagonists of the game can disrupt it.

The official announcement explains that Red Zones are the areas in which the KPA and the revolutionaries are in open conflict, but the game will also explore the Yellow Zones, which come complete with another set of gameplay challenges.

Dambusters states, "The Yellow Zones are the densely populated areas of Philadelphia, where civilians live in constant fear. A mix of Orwellian police state and ghetto slum, the People are kept under the heel of oppression through permanent surveillance, 24-hour propaganda, and an ever-constant military presence."

Inside these new resistance areas, fighters will have to be stealthy for as long as possible to make sure that their attacks reach the intended target, and they manage to then escape to fight another day.

Homefront: The Revolution aims to offer a new take on some familiar mechanics

The game will take place in 2029, two years after the events of the first title in the series, and Dambusters says that it will take the original ideas and expand them in interesting new ways.

Gamers will become Ethan Brady and will have to try and create a solid resistance movement that can take down the KPA and restore the freedom for all Americans in Philadelphia.

Guerrilla warfare will be simulated by allowing the player to explore safe houses and plan attack routes, take out enemy propaganda and disable their security, infiltrate locations to take out high-value commanders and stand up for civilians who are threatened by the security forces.

It's unclear how much content will be featured in the coop-focused multiplayer beta for Homefront: The Revolution.

The title had a relatively troubled development, starting off at Crytek and THQ before both companies decided to sell the project.

Homefront: The Revolution has the potential to offer some interesting moments and new twists on the classic shooter mechanics, and gamers will begin to see more of what it has to deliver starting in February.
