14 DAY TRIAL // Ara: History Untold feels like another Civilization clone. It does what other games like Humankind and Endless Legend have tried to do before (and partially succeeded): provide an enjoyable grand strategy experience.
Announced during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, Ara: History Untold is being developed by Oxide Games, a studio that includes many of the leads behind one of the most popular historical grand strategy games of all time. The name of game is not mentioned in the announcement, but it’s safe to assume that they’re talking about Civilization.
Gameplay is exactly what you’d expect from a Civilization clone: grow your nation and be prepared to defend it. Take the best decisions you can so that your nation your triumph, as well as predict your opponent’s next move, putting your skill as a leader to the ultimate test.
Obviously, you’ll be constructing a wide range of buildings from forges to libraries to citadels and cathedrals, providing you with strategic bonuses and abilities. The game will also feature a massive research tree where you’ll be able to learn powerful technologies, each unlocking new kinds of resources, improvements, goods and equipment.
Exploration is another important aspect of the game too, as you’ll need to find the resources to develop your nation. The maps are procedurally generated, so each playthrough will be different regardless of what faction you choose to play with. Speaking of factions, just three names have been confirmed until now: Egyptians, Greeks, and the United States.
The dynamic, living world of Ara: History Untold is fully rendered and brought to life through the power of Oxide’s proprietary Nitrous Engine. Although no release date has been announced for Ara: History Untold, Microsoft and Oxide Games have confirmed that the turn-based, historical grand strategy game will be coming to PC and will be available day one with PC Game Pass.
