The main audience for these devices are console gamers

HipShotDot is an attachment for your TV or monitor that will help you get better aim in games by attaching an LED light.

It seems that people have been taking sharpies, and they were drawing points in the middle of the TV to get a better aim. Since this is clearly a method unworthy of gamers, something had to be done, so the HipShotDot system was developed.

We would like to say that it’s an advanced targeting system and that it took a long time for engineers to come up with this technology, but at the end of the day it’s just LED light that sticks to the center of the display, and that’s connected to a USB power source.

How is HipShotDot working?

Here is what the Amazon entry says about it, which should be more than illuminating. “The HipShotDot is the gaming industry's first powered red dot sight attachment for your television. Improve your KDR, perfect your trick scope, run and gun and shoot from the hip like never before. Level up with the HipShotDot.”

It’s interesting to note that even if the official description mentions support for the PC players, the Amazon entry says that it’s not designed to be used with monitors or laptops.

What it basically does is provide players with a bright red dot in the middle of the screen, which acts as a guide when players are not aiming down the sights. Also, the fact that consoles are mentioned is not a mistake.

Let’s take Counter Strike: Global Offensive as an example. The developers don’t provide any kind of auto-aim like it happens on the consoles, and shooting from the hip has severe penalties, as opposed to aiming down the sight.

The penalties for aiming from the hip on consoles for games in the Call of Duty or Battlefield series are much less obvious, so this system makes sense. They also got some players to use it, and they apparently reported incredible results, but I leave you to be the judge of that.
