After a rumor suggested that his relationship with Konami was finally over, an official announcement from game developer Hideo Kojima confirms that he is actively working with Sony on an entirely new franchise and says that more details will be offered soon.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the gaming personality, who is ready to also confirm that he is creating an entirely new studio that will feature some of his long-term collaborators.

A video from Sony Computer Entertainment also explains that the company is very happy to work with Hideo Kojima and looks forward to finding out how he can use the unique characteristics of the PlayStation 4 to create a unique gaming experience.

Andrew House, who leads that division of the company, explains that Metal Gear Solid has been very important to the history of the home console, but it's clear that the rights to that franchise are linked to Konami and that it cannot be used for the new project.

Hideo Kojima seems to be excited by the new title he is working on, but it will probably be months if not years before he offers a full look at the story or the mechanics that power it so fans should arm themselves with patience.

This is still a big deal for Sony and allows the company to create another series of experiences that will draw a lot of new players to the PlayStation 4 in the future.

Hideo Kojima might create a new type of open world experience

The game developer has long been associated with the Metal Gear experience and its complex story mechanics, but he has also worked on titles including Policenauts, Zone of the Enders, and Castlevania.

Recently he was also ready to collaborate with Guillermo del Toro to create a horror game that was supposed to be called Silent Hills.

The two have expressed an intention to work together in the future, even if the original project was canceled by Konami when Kojima fell out of favor.

Given his ambitious nature, it is very likely that the developer will seek to create another complex open world experience, like The Phantom Pain, and will be putting together the foundations of another long-term narrative.

It's also possible that the first collaboration with Sony will be a smaller title that will focus on a unique mechanic and theme.

The PlayStation 4 needs some big exclusives for the coming years, and Hideo Kojima is the right man to create one of them.

In the meantime, Konami still has the rights to Metal Gear Solid and will certainly seek to continue titles linked to it.

Fans are currently speculating that a lot of content was cut from The Phantom Pain and that at least some of it will be packaged as downloadable content packs that will expand the story.

The company is also delivering updates to improve gameplay and planning to make the Online mode a long-term interest for fans, who are currently working to try and eliminate all the nukes from the world.
