Urban mobility has become a rather important concept, and smartphone map services like Google Maps or HERE Maps are almost indispensable when trying to find your way in a big city.
HERE Maps has received a major update with some new features, but the true novelty is that the application has been renamed to HERE WeGo. The motivation behind this move is that the HERE Maps name was a bit too generic and similar to other lesser apps, according to the company.
In addition, the company found that only a few regular users opened the application in order to look at a map, but they usually did it to find the fastest way to get to their destination.
HERE WeGo for Android and iOS gets new features and improved UI
The main use of the app is to find the fastest route to get to your destination, so the company thought that such dynamism should be portrayed in the app’s name as well. Patrick Weissert, Director of Consumer Experiences at HERE, has stated, “We’re in the midst of a massive change - a mobility revolution - and the new app reflects this.”
He has gone on to say that users might need to switch between 5 and 10 apps in order to find the best option for a trip while the majority of them stick to just 1-2 apps and might overlook other better choices.
So it's no surprise that HERE WeGo wants to cut out that app duplication and overload so that users have all the options they need in one application.
HERE WeGo versions for Android and iOS has recently gotten updated with lots of new features, including a new tool that makes it easier to pick the means of transportation for reaching a new destination. It has also added a new Route Comparison screen for additional information, and car-sharing firm Car2Go will be providing options inside the app, in certain cities.
