Charging your phone through USB Type-C port should be easier

As many of you probably know by now, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P do not come with wireless charging technology and that's not necessarily because of the materials they are made of.

While many flagship smartphones offer this feature, which has almost become mandatory for top-tier devices, Google decided to leave wireless charging outside both Nexus smartphones to be launched on the market later this month.

For those who would have preferred wireless charging technology inside their Nexus smartphones, Google has already prepared some explanations.

Apparently, Google implemented wireless charging technology onto some of its previous Nexus smartphones, but decided against it for the new devices because there's another component in Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P can help charge them faster.

The USB Type-C port can be a better alternative?

Here is the company's full explanation that contains the reasons why Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P lack wireless charging technology:

“We added Qi wireless charging starting with N4 because plugging in USB micro B was such a hassle! With this year’s Nexii, we support USB Type-C which has a reversible connector so there’s no more guessing.

“And it charges incredibly swiftly: 1% to 100% in 97 mins on the 6P for example (the first ~45 mins of charging is especially fast). Meanwhile, wireless charging adds z (thickness). So, ease of plugging in + fast charging + optimizing for thinness made us double down on Type-C instead of wireless!” said Hiroshi Lockheimer, member of the Google Nexus team.

So, if you can accept this explanation although you wanted your next Nexus smartphone to have this feature included by default, you can now go ahead and pre-order either of them.

On the other hand, if you really need wireless charging, then the new Nexus smartphones are not for you, so look for an alternative.
