These past few weeks, the rumor that Superman actor Henry Cavill would be appearing in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” sequel “Fifty Shades Darker” picked up a lot of speed online. Embedded below is a video from an E! News interview, in which he addresses it.

Believe it or not, but he’s not saying no. “Basically what I can say is I can’t say anything about it right now,” Cavill says with a smile.

In showbiz-speak, that usually means something is happening on that front but the celebrity being interviewed is not at liberty to discuss it yet, but will be soon. In other words, Cavill is making it sound as if there is truth to the report and he will truly be appearing in “Fifty Shades Darker.”

Now’s the moment when all Cavill fans should come together for a collective and quite possibly overly dramatic “NOOOOO!!!!” The first “Fifty Shades” movie made a lot of money in ticket sales, but let’s not deceive ourselves: it was not a film made for the purpose of telling a good story in at least an acceptable manner.

It was an obvious and shameless cash grab, meant to capitalize on the “Fifty Shades” books phenomenon.

If Cavill ends up appearing in it, even if for brief cameos as Anastasia Steele’s boss Jack Hyde (apparently, that’s the part he’s being linked to), he stands to lose the credibility he’s been working so hard to get.

And it would be a shame if he blew his Hollywood chances by doing this.
