Video game developers Paradox Development Studio is announcing that Hearts of Iron IV will finally be launched on June 6 of this year, after a string of delays, and that it is starting a new series of video developer diaries that are designed to offer an overview of the coming grand strategy experience.

The footage features the leading game makers working on the experience as they explain how gamers can choose to play historically and get a classic World War II experience and the "what if" scenarios that allow fans to reshape history.

Johan Andersson, Dan Lind, Mats Virtanen, and Jakob Munthe explain that Hearts of Iron IV has a lot of complex systems that will make sure that gamers have choices regardless of the country that they choose to play as.

Paradox adds, "Draft elaborate battle plans as you hop across the Pacific or push deep into the Eurasian steppes. Build diplomatic coalitions that will turn into an iron wall of tanks and aircraft. Research cutting edge weaponry and industrial technology, and give your army an edge in the destructive conflict to come."

There are three more video diaries coming and a lot more details about the mechanics of Hearts of Iron IV and the way the major countries will behave are offered on the official forums.

Paradox is reworking industry, combat, more

The new World War II grand strategy title will introduce a range of changes when compared to previous installments in the series.

It seems that the developers want to eliminate a lot of micro-management to focus a gamer's attention on the complexity of the situation and on how they can tweak the research, diplomacy, production or politics of their chosen country to give it an advantage.

World War II offers a smaller time frame than other titles from the company which will make it harder for players to develop their own narratives.

The game will feature an entirely new engine and the battle plan system will make it easier to create solid operational plans.

Hearts of Iron IV will only be offered on the PC and presumably Paradox will use the same model for expansions that is working so well at the moment for Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV.

Grand strategy plans are spoiled this year as the company is also planning to launch Stellaris, the title that moves the action to space and the science fiction genre, on May 9.
