Blizzard is confirming that the new expansion for Hearthstone is called Whispers of the Old Gods and is set to arrive in either late April or early May, introducing no less than 134 new cards to the game and offering gamers new ways to tweak their deck for improved performance.

The official announcement explains that "the Old Gods’ voices are dread whispers that no mere mortal can hope to resist. It is said that for millennia uncounted the massive Old Gods lay dreaming in ageless sleep deep beneath the surface of Azeroth."

Four special Old Gods cards will be introduced in the expansion, C’Thun, Yogg-Saron, Y’Shaarj, and N’Zoth, all of them designed to introduce entirely new ways for the gamer to take out his opponents.

Blizzard is also offering a Legendary C’Thun card and two Beckoner of Evil cards to all players who open their first Whispers of the Old Gods pack for Hearthstone.

There are some details about the cards that will be offered in the official site reveal, but a full list of the 134 new cards has not yet been provided, although it seems the focus will be on modifications and tweaks associated with the already existing mechanics and powers.

On March 14, gamers will be able to get access to a 50 pack bundle of Whispers of the Old Gods card packs for 49.99 dollars or Euro, with a new card back offered as a bonus.

After launch, new packs will be offered for the same price as those for previous expansions.

Whispers of the Old Gods comes to Arena on launch day

All the cards associated with the expansion will be active in all modes when launch takes place.

Blizzard also says it will use the delivery of Whispers of the Old Gods to significantly revamp the multiplayer side of Hearthstone by adding Standard and Wild Play formats.

The first of them is designed to keep competitive action interesting and balanced by allowing gamers to use the core set of cards as well as Blackrock Mountain, The Grand Tournament, The League of Explorers and Whispers of the Old Gods.

According to Blizzard it plans to deliver more balancing tweaks to the cards that will be featured in Standard.

Meanwhile Wild Play is designed to allow gamers to show off their collection of cards and will introduce crafting for players who are interested in getting access to everything Hearthstone has to offer.
