Eleven years ago on this day, Steve Jobs announced the iPhone, a smartphone device that would change the world as we knew it.

On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs announced the iPhone at the Macworld convention. The device was highly acclaimed and led to innovate the products after that. It received a lot of attention from the media, and Jobs said the first iPhones are coming to the public later that year.

On June 29, 2007, the first iPhone was released to the public, dubbed iPhone 2G. After that, it becomes a tradition for Apple to release a new or upgrade model every year, starting with the iPhone 3G on  July 11, 2008, and continuing with iPhone 3GS in 2009, iPhone 4 in 2010, iPhone 4S in 2011, and iPhone 5 in 2012.

In 2013, Apple announced, for the first time, two iPhone models, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, a tradition that was kept in the years to come. As such, in 2014, Apple released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and in 2015 they announced the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus updates.

iPhone X is the 10th-anniversary iPhone

Things were changed again a year later, as Apple announced three iPhone models in 2016, the highly anticipated iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, along with the smaller, yet powerful iPhone SE. Finally, last year, Apple announced the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus models, along with iPhone X, the 10th-anniversary iPhone.

The iPhone came a long way from its first release in 2007 when the late Steve Jobs announced iPhone 2G, and we're now in 2018, eleven years later, and can't wait to see what Apple has in store for the iPhone. We don't even know if there will be an iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus released, but rumors are swirling around the iPhone SE 2.

With that in mind, we wish the iPhone a happy 11th birthday today, and we're looking forward to the next iPhone releases this fall, as well as to the upcoming WWDC 2018 developer conference were Apple will unveil the future of the iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS operating systems. Happy birthday, iPhone!
